Bad Man!! but, while you're up, will you get me a slice?

I think I've got this losing weight thing pretty much down.

Today after class, I had a late breakfast with my son, ingesting a waffle with butter and maple syrup and one and a half side orders of bacon. and a glass of fresh squeezed grapefruit juice.

This afternoon, while everyone else was out doing errands, I ate a third of the fresh baked cookies someone made. I tried to pick which ones to eat so that it wouldn't like any of them were missing.

L&D erupted this evening and I got called in to help cover it. When I got there, it was clear it was going to be sketchy for a while and it didn't look like anyone was going to be getting breaks or dinner. I ordered pizza, the ultimate seratonin releasing drug for dealing with stress. Only two slices for me though, on account of how I'm on this mission to lose weight. One slice of pepperoni, and one slice of sausage, onion and jalapeno. That's always a good one to burp with when you're scrubbed and your face is covered by an OR mask. Really clears the lacrimal glands.

Once back home, I resumed the not quite juice fast by drinking a glass or two of organic grapefruit juice. Gotta stay healthy.

I'm on the same boat. My flatmate says I'm putting weight on because Intermediate is a feminine series. I say I'm putting weight on because I'm eating more than I'm expending (is that a word?)

feminine series?

V said...

Yeah. She says that Primary has got male energy and Intermediate has got female energy.

okrgr said...

i would say that she has it backwards. the energy in first series seems to move inward and upward, the forward folding, the twists. the energy direction in second series seems very outward, very expansive--the back bends, the fore arm balances, etc

Dunno, all this energy stuff goes right over my head. I'm kind of thick when it comes to that, and tend to think of muscles, bones and tendons stretching rather than energy going anywhere. Maybe one day I'll get it.

same here, but i think you could sense a difference in how you feel doing janu A vs kapotasana. one is vastly more ... arrgh, can't come up with the right word, aging sux...expansive? extroverted? and one is more calming, attention going inward

I've heard that women tend to round out again in intermediate. So far that hasn't happened to me. I just ate nachos and a big taco and an entire side of sour cream though. Oops.

Try spin class! :) (As if hours in the day are unlimited & all that.)

You guys are making me hungry, but The Wife says I can't start the appetizers until the guests arrive. Dang.

Hey okrgr - I never knew you had your own blog! Til I saw the link on Samasthiti's site.

i once left the link to it in a comment on your blog. you were in the midst of two or three simultaneous blog wars. always willing to make light of someone else's misery, i tried to make a funny by offering to let you ghost author my long dead blog and left the address.

then, your blog disappeared. wow, i thought, i've pissed people off before, but i've never made someone do that before. power rush!! not really. i felt bad about until i eventually realized that i probably had little or nothing to do with the chain of events.

on a different, more current topic, kiran and i met an ashtangi Chuck from NYC at a guruji west coast stop three or four years ago. There was a small cadre of new yorkers out here. Ms. Jones, Cary, chuck and a couple of others too.

The chuck we met may not be the same, but he had a really, really good practice. he's just behind me in my pic at the top of my page. unfortunatly, there's no way to tell given the pose. 'our' chuck had some tattoos but i can't remember what they were like. the hair is different than you describe but my hair is completely different now too, so that isn't helpful. i think our chuck was married or had been married. he appeared pretty interested in cary though, who seemed to have a good time toying with him. when we came to shiva, i was hoping the shiva chuck would be teaching so i could see if they were the same but patti taught both of the classes i went to.

i guess it's not too unreasonable to assume that there could be more than one ashtngi named chuck who lives in nyc.

Why would something "feminine" cause anyone to gain weight?

okrgr said...

lol, don't go there carl

okrgr said...

thanks dave. it kind of a fits and starts thing but i'm finding it it easier recently to write things than i did last year. was just flat out lazy

Well, her theory is that Primary is a masculine series so women lose a lot of weight and look more androgynous (no bum, no t*ts). Then when they start Intermediate, they gain their feminine curves back because it is a feminine series.

okrgr said...

i think she may be right after all, because i put on a lot of weight last year and had been doing mostly second the year prior. course last year i was doing mainly visualization yoga, so that may have had a role in my rubenesque development

I don't want to burden you too much with my slow uptake but... why exactly is the primary series masculine? Why is the second series feminine?

And do you mean to say that this re-boobification and re-buttification occurs after women switch to doing intermediate only, rather than doing first + some of second series?

And, by the way, there are some very feminine ladies practicing only primary series at our studio.

You know, Carl, I'm just repeating what she says, that I don't necessarily understand or agree with. Sorry!
